I set a man up in your place
I guess I needed a human face,
a god I could adore
with my fleshly fingers.
I clung to someone I could see,
for what was faith to me?
with such concrete evidence of love
and goodness in the world.
Now I kneel at an empty bed
to pray to you instead.
If only I could feel your touch,
gaze deep into your eyes.
